I believe in a well rounded music education. I have seen way too many piano students who gets trained for many years only ending up unable to even play simple chord charts, or sightread music etc. I am a classically trained pianist who has also been playing pop/rock/broadway/jazz/world and all types of music all my life. I incorporate all sorts of functional skills that I believe is vital for a student whether they end up being a professional or simply a music enthusiast. I want all my students to finish their education with me with the ability to play whatever type of music that is put in front of them with confidence. Music should be fun, but still with discipline. I have experience teaching children of all ages as well as adults and understand that each student has their own unique abilities as well as needs that needs to be catered to. It isn't enough just to go through a method book. Rather it's important to use everything at our disposal to help the student learn the fundamentals as well as music that speaks to them personally. I combine both methodologies as well as involve students in choosing music that they like in the lesson to teach them different skills and techniques. My studio is located in the San Gabriel Valley. I teach on a Boston grand piano at my home where students will have a chance to study on a high quality piano. I also have professional recording equipments that I use for advance students to hear what they sound like for them to grow as I believe the ear is ultimately what we use to play piano and make music. As a composer as well as an improvisor, I believe in nurturing student's ability to create music on their own. One of the most gratifying things to do is to simply sit at the piano and just make music, let the music flow right out of the fingers. I am a very experienced improviser and can teach you the necessary performance, composition and theory skills you need to help you improvise music straight from your heart and your mind. Contact me today to set up your first lesson.
